Local 1357 Joins USW National Day of Action
Against Goodyear

Saturday December 16 members of Local 1357 joined a nationwide protest Goodyear’s closing of American manufacturing plants while increasing imports under the Goodyear name from China. In a show of solidarity, 7 members Local 1357 traveled to East Providence to join 35 other activists in the chilly morning air. Members of USW locals 1007, 4543, 14845, 15509, 16031 as well as representatives of AFSME 94, IAM, IBEW 99, The Institute for Labor Studies Research, IUE-CWA, Jobs With Justice, MNA, RI AFL-CIO, UFCW 328, UNITE-HERE, and USWA were also there.

The company is also using replacement workers in its plants that are on strike. After years of concessions by USW members to keep the company profitable, Goodyear posted a $489 million profit last year.
Goodyear’s behavior is a reflection of all multinational corporations. They no longer see workers as an asset but instead as a liability. These companies no longer share the social responsibilities and patriotism of our parents’ employers. Goodyear’s workers know this and are fighting for all American workers.
We must not let them fail.
